Travel Destinations In California
I’ve lived in California my whole life and have traveled it quite a bit. From Fort Bragg in Northern California to San Diego with almost everything in the middle. Here is my list of the places I’ve stayed and California and blogged about. Still have some catching up to do. Plus I still have never been to Central California so that is a destination I need to plan. I plan to add to this list as I tour more of my own state with the kids, enjoying all California has to offer. Click on the links and see my reviews for each place. You’ll understand why I love it here and maybe you’ll find places you haven’t been and you can add them to your list.
Northern California
Little River. A small city that has so much to do. Fishing, shopping, dining, endless beaches and we even kissed a giraffe!
Road Trip To Hearst Castle. We explored San Simeon, Elephant Seal Beach, Hearst Castle (of course) and more. This was a fun trip, even though it rained almost the whole time. We even got a tour of Nitt Wit Ridge by the owner.
Southern California (Santa Barbara to Los Angeles)
Bottle Village in Simi Valley. A historic landmark of buildings and structures built out of recycled bottles in the 60’s. Tours are monthly so plan ahead.
Catalina Island. A little bit south of Los Angeles. You have to take a boat or ferry to get there leaving from the city of San Pedro. This is one of my favorite travel destinations since the beach is so close and there is so much exploring to do.
Solvang and Santa Barbara. A small Danish town behind Santa Barbara with city puppet shows, danish pastries bigger than your head and a few museums. You can travel most of it on foot, finding eateries for meals.
Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve. You MUST check their website to see the timing on the poppies. If you go at the right time you will see mountain after mountain covered with beautiful orange poppies, the native plant of California and our state flower.
Thousand Trails. This is a camping area that has everything from tents to teepees, cabins or bring your own RV. There is a stream, pool, horses, miniature golf and even a rec room. It is in Santa Barbara but away from the beach, nestled back in the mountains.
Southern California (further south, in the San Diego Area):
Carlsbad. A quaint city that welcomes travelers for romantic B&Bs, miles of beaches, over 100 local breweries and so much more.

Pechanga Resort & Spa. This was a relaxing trip with a bamboo full body massage, lots of food and some R&R.
Southern California (east, in the desert, towards Arizona)
Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa. This is an amazing oasis out in the middle of the desert. Closest big city is Coachella (where they have Coachella Music Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival every year). The drive is worth it when you get here and never want to leave. (post coming soon).
Things To Do In Blythe With Children. We go out here once or twice a year to visit my grandma and aunt and it is quiet a dustbowl so we always try to find something new in Blythe or nearby.
California Amusement Parks: Universal Studios, Knott’s Berry Farm, Legoland, Hurricane Harbor Water Park. Haven’t been yet but want to take the kids to Great Wolf Lodge.
Plus check out this list of Food Challenges in restaurants all over California.
You can see how passionate I am about my home state and as much as I have traveled and explored there is still a lot of places, cities, museums and more to discover! Can’t wait to see what this year brings for new adventures!
