Holiday season is just around the corner and tis the season of giving and receiving gifts. I am sure everyone will agree that this year will be different than the years in the past to celebrate the holidays with our loved ones. It is the perfect time for sending christmas cards. Make sure you get them ordered ASAP and in the mail so they’ll arrive on time. I like to get photo cards or include photos of the kids and write a note about how we have been and an update on what is going on in our lives.
With Covid cases surging and at an all time high, it is very important to follow the CDC guidelines and practice social distancing. Which means little to no contact with loved ones.
Gifts are mostly, if not all the time followed by card giving to express the relevance of a bond. It is a well-established fact that a handwritten card, which is personalized only for you, is a gift that will be cherished forever.
Here are some of the reasons why it is absolutely something you should try doing this holiday season,
- Feel Connected and Loved
We all like getting gifts and imagine receiving a greeting card which contains personal anecdotes and some shared moments articulated perfectly. Wouldn’t it just melt your heart?
Even before the pandemic, there were some people who liked to send handwritten letters to acknowledge their relationship. It shows how much you value the other person and sparks the emotion of feeling loved which cannot be achieved by the automated generic cards available online.
- Need of the hour
Remembering family and expressing how much they mean to you is important, now more than ever. As soon as the pandemic began many articles popped online about constantly staying in touch with everyone and keep checking on people that have a history of anxiety. This year taught us the significance of having emotional connections and how it helps us keep going no matter what. Writing a personalized card to be grateful about the special people in our life is the least we can do.
- It is a heartfelt gesture
I am one of those people who value the effort put into a gift more than the actual gift. Anyone can buy a gift from the store but to actually think about the person receiving it and putting time towards the gift shows how invested you are. It is the gesture that counts and not the extravagance. Call me old fashioned but that is how I like my gifts: Thoughtful and Compassionate.
- Backed by Studies
Studies show that people who are expressive and show gratitude have fewer levels of stress and anxiety. Overall it benefits the giver as well as the receiver. What’s more, it increases your happy quotient and also helps you sleep better at night.
There has been a decline in the auto-generated cards to give thanks by the businesses and instead there is an increase in the old fashioned way of sending greetings.
This service is provided by some of the websites online to make it convenient for businesses to send bulk cards to their clients.
Many businesses prefer to use these website’s services to send thank you cards to their clients for their business.
Some of these websites have amazing features to make the card special by adding custom doodles and don’t forget the innumerable fonts to choose from. You can pick the handwriting closest to your actual one and even adjust the neatness of the handwriting. How indigenous is this? Some websites also help in the writing part as well since not everyone is a word wizard.
It is a proven fact that the personalized letters have more chances of being opened than the run of the mill spam emails that are ignored and eventually land up in junk. The handwritten ones have a higher success rate of being opened and acknowledged.
I am not sure if the tradition of send handwritten cards will eventually wilt away or NOT! ( I really hope it doesn’t) We should cherish it till the time it is relevant. There can be as many apps and websites to help you with sending cards to your loved ones but they can never beat the ones that are handwritten. The excitement of receiving one in a mail is indeed a prominent gesture.

Sending snail mail is one of my favorite things these days because you are right, with covid life so many of us are feeling disconnected. We can’t hold a photo we see on facebook or a text message that means a lot to us. We can though hold a photo someone mailed to us or a heart felt card that we can place somewhere we will see often and feel that care and love over and over!

You know I havent been able to talk much lately so my family who dont get online i havent been in touch with as much. Cards would be a great way for me to reach out and show them how things are going.
