Super Bowl Loaded Tater Tots Skewers
One of my favorite parts about the Super Bowl is the food! That and the commercials. We usually have a potluck-style party and everyone brings either an appetizer or dessert and my dad will grill burgers and hot dogs. Since there is a random mix of people from little kids to seniors it is good to have food that everyone will like. I usually make 2-3 dishes that are kid-friendly since my children will be there. I found this amazing tater tots recipe from a friend and can’t wait to bring it. It was a crowd pleaser at home and I’m sure it will be a hit at the super bowl party. I always recommend to make food for about 1/4 of the people to have one or two. That way you don’t have too much in leftovers but a lot of people can try it. The ingredients are easy to gather and the main purchase is the tater tots!
Tater Tots Revamped Appetizer
Gather your ingredients a few days ahead. The grocery stores will be a madhouse on Super Bowl Sunday. Keep the tater tots frozen until you are ready to make the recipe.
This recipe is the best of both worlds. A finger food you made into something fancy.
You can present in a lots of ways. Pile them, put a few at a time on a tray, stack them like a log cabin or fan them out.
Bake the tater tots according to the package directions. Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. I like having everything ready and measured and bringing it all to the party to put in the oven. That way I don’t have to transport them hot or worry about them cooling off too much. If you cook them first make sure you don’t overcook them and store them in a covered dish to keep warm.
Once cooled, add 4 to 6 tater tots to each skewer. Push them all to one side and leave the other side of the skewer blank.
Place the skewers on a parchment lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with bacon bits and chopped green onion and finally, top with shredded cheese.
Return skewers to the oven and bake for another 5 to 7 minutes until the cheese is melted. Remove from the oven and serve with sour cream.
We are so close to the final game! I can’t wait to see the game this Sunday. What team are you rooting for? … I’ll be cheering for my 49’ers!
