Homemade Uncrustables Sandwiches
These Uncrustables sandwiches are the perfect way to pack your kid’s lunch for cheap and still get them the sandwiches that are all the rage in school cafeterias. Made with simple ingredients, versatile and quick to make. Not only that, the kids can help you make them. Plan ahead and make a few at a time and freeze them. My kids like a frozen one packed in their lunches. That way 1/2 way through the school day the Uncrustables sandwiches have defrosted but are still nice and cold to eat. Throw in some string cheese, a piece of fruit and some water and you have a packed lunch.
The basic ingredients are peanut butter, jelly and a loaf of bread. Buy your favorite types (crunchy vs creamy, strawberry vs grape, etc). White bread cuts easier but you can use wheat bread too. To make the sandwiches you will need a sandwich cutter/sealer. I have seen a few different types (including ones made of plastic) but I like the one made by Pampered Chef the best. If you know someone that sells Pampered Chef you can order local. If not, you can buy them on Amazon. I also like to use reusable sandwich containers. That way my kids aren’t throwing away a one-use plastic bag with each sandwich they eat. If you pack chips or other loose foods you can use the reusable bags (sandwiches fit in them too). They come in a huge variety of colors and a few different sizes.
How to Make Homemade Uncrustables Sandwiches
To create the uncrustables sandwiches first make the sandwiches like a normal PB&J. Put peanut butter and jelly on the bread and put the two pieces together. You can use a cutting board to have a lot of room and make them in bulk.
Next take your sandwich press and place it on the sandwich. Press and turn. Viola! That is it. Grab your next sandwich and repeat. The uncrustables sandwiches are made.
Store in individual bags so you can grab one easily to add to a lunch. I like to make 1/2 with grape jelly and 1/2 with strawberry jelly. My kids aren’t huge fans of peach jelly but when I make them for myself I’ll add peach jam.
