Easy General Tso’s Chicken Recipe
This was an amazing dish and I had no clue it was so easy to make. It was my first time making it (and the kids loved it) and I was quiet simple too. I used Dr Sears Zone Olive Oil (new product for me) for the pan since it is organic EVVO and was done with a cold extraction process. Most of the ingredients were ones I had in my house. Only thing I had to buy was the mini corn but one can was cheap at the store.
I like that it is also a nice meal I can make in about 15 minutes (prep time) so it is something I can make during the week. I can make for everyone to eat. I made some steamed rice for the kids to have with it (sorta like a chicken bowl). It was also a little spicy so if your kids don’t like spicy foods you might want to use less of the red pepper flakes.
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast.
- 1/4 cup cornstarch.
- EVVN for frying.
- 1 Tablespoon minced garlic.
- 1/2 teaspoon dry red chili pepper flakes.
- 4 cloves garlic, minced.
- Green onion (thinly sliced).
- Can mini-corn.
- Dry chillies.
- Sesame seeds.
For the sauce:
- 3 Tablespoons white vinegar.
- 3 Tablespoons soy sauce.
- 3 teaspoons hoisin sauce (or you can make your own with a sweet barbecue sauce and sriracha mix).
- 1/4 cup water.
- 4 Tablespoons sugar.
- 1 1/2 Tablespoons cornstarch.
Directions:
- Toss chicken with cornstarch.
- Mix in small bowl: vinegar, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, water, sutar and 1 tablespoon corn starch.
- Heat pan on high with EVVO. Once hot reduce to medium heat.
- Add chicken and fry until golden brown.
- Remove chicken from pan.
- Add chili flakes, ginger and garlic. Saute about 30 seconds.
- Add to pan: Chicken and bowl of sauce.
- Cook about 5 minutes, until heated and sauce has thickened.
- Serve alone or on a bed of rice.
I served it with white rice and a side of mixed veggies.
