The Cave is a circuit set with E-Blox. They created different chapters to this novelette called Earth One. Chapter one is The Cave. Kids can build quiet a few things from this one set. Mountain crack and light, light source, ancient mammal, shimeji mushrooms, glowing Pilea flowers, grandmother’s house, T-Rex and a volcano. Board games are a great way to entertain a group of kids that are ‘too cool’ to do something like play tag or hide-and-go-seek. This new one, Drop It, by Kosmos is for ages 8+ and 2-4 players. Average game time is 30 minutes. It is kinda like a Connect-4 and a board game rolled into one. Kids can play one-on-one or as a team. It is a whole set in one bag.
Family Fun & Creating Memories
There are other things you can do, as a family or with friends that offer enrichment. Museums, farms, community events, carnivals, the local fair, etc. I like find these ahead to try to plan ones we want to attend. I usually see them on Facebook, in Macaroni Kid emails, from newsletters, etc.
Go Blueberry Picking! Find a local farm that allows you to come in and pick blueberries. We picked 6 baskets and plan to make blueberry jam with them. The season is open for a few months and blackberries and raspberries will be ready to pick soon. We went to Underwood Farms in Somis. Search online to find locations near you. Get the family and friends and go to a Paint Nite event. A lot of instructor-led painting stores are for age 21+ since there is alcohol served. I found Paint Night to have some age 6+ classes so we decided to try it out. Each event is listed on their site with the theme of the painting, a picture of what will be painted and the locations to choose from. I chose the turtle one because I like the beach theme. People could choose to paint more than three turtles too, to do one for each family member, if they liked.
I try to cook at home a lot so we can save money and eat healthier but getting out of the house is good too. Instead of breaking the bank by eating lunch or dinner somewhere we go out of dessert once a week. We take turns choosing a location. Getting ice cream is my favorite dessert.
