Children Chewing on Non-Food Items
I came across Chewigem’s website completely on accident. See, I have a kid that chews. Most his shirt collars. He has done this on/off since he was about 2 or 3 years old. Most when stressed, overtired or zoned out (like on X-Box). Stress seems to be a leading factor. I never knew what to do about it. Doctors say just ignore it since he can control it (doesn’t do it in public). It is related to chewing on fingernails or hair. A sensory issue. But for some reason my son likes his shirt collars. When he chews on them he often destroys the whole shirt since the collar is mangled and has holes in it. This isn’t fun or cheap for me. But I didn’t know what to do, besides nagging. Well, I found Chewigem and I think this will help. It isn’t the same as a shirt but they come in a few sizes, textures and thicknesses. A color choice is available too. Since my son chews a lot we got the thickest/toughest one. It is a necklace also.
The size makes it look like some shiny cool necklace and makes it where if he is chewing on it he can still grip the other side with his hand. I think I might order another one so that he can sometimes chew on a softer one.
There are others too. Bracelets, skull shaped, dog tags, etc.
Here is the one that we got. I let my son pick it out himself.
It comes in its own carrying case to keep it clean and is also hand washable.

[…] This isn’t your normal giveaway. Not all kids have the sensory need to chew. But for those that do, this is an awesome invention. Check it out. See if it is something your child might need. You can see the review HERE. […]
