Having a baby is a whole new set of learning. For the baby and the parents. All of it is quiet a learning curve. Especially for first time parents. Having a baby or toddler that starts to crawl starts the beginning of child proofing. But when a they start to walk it is a while new ball-of-wax. Next will be climbing. Their reach will be so much further. They horizons open in whole new ways and there is so much more they can get into. Meaning, getting hurt easier or breaking things. Plus the worry of them getting outside near the street or a pool. Once you have someone walking you’ll have to up the game on childproofing to a whole new level to make sure your house is safe.
1- Make sure you put child locks on cabinets, drawers and electric sockets. If you have a coffee table or fireplace than a bumper on it is important. I love this one from Gland Electronics. It is a kit with all of these inside. Right now you can save 30% with promo code: 9574YT4T.
2- Put locks up high on doors so babies can not open them to get outside. Locks on the toilets are important too.
3- Put cleaners away and locked up. Best to keep them somewhere like the garage and up high and out of reach too.
4-Get a camera. I never had one when my kids were little since I co-slept and usually napped when they did. But when they started roaming and not always being in the same room as I was than I needed to make sure I could see them and make sure they weren’t in mischief. This is great if you are making dinner and they want to play in the living room, a play room, their bedroom, etc. The SpaceView HD Wireless Baby Monitor is the newborn must haves for 2019. It is a great item to put on your baby registry so you have it before the baby comes. Having more than one is great if you have a kid that is walking well and likes to roam from room to room. One monitor can pair up to four cameras.
5-Make sure you have things braced to the walls. Bookshelves, headboards, tvs, etc. This would be to protect your baby from pulling things on their head and will be a double-win to protect you from an earthquake. Put trinkets and breakables away and out of reach. They might need to be out of reach for a few years, so find new places for them. This includes candles too.
You’ll figure this out as you go along. Some kids get into things more when they are walking and exploring more than others. You might need baby gates if you have a two-story house. A gate around a pool and Jacuzzi. If you have pets you should make sure they aren’t around the kids without supervision. Kids don’t always know to be gently around them and can hurt them.
