Homemade Beer Bread
I love making homemade bread. Beer bread is a first for me. I couldn’t find yeast in my house, at the store or on Amazon without waiting a month. Seems like everyone has the same idea to bake bread right now. Well, a friend posted this and I thought it sounded crazy. But, not only did it work out fine but it tasted great. The beer has yeast in it so is a great substitute for activated yeast. I could definitely smell the beer when I was making the bread but couldn’t tell the difference between it and regular bread when it was done. If anything it was a little more moist. I dropped my bread loaf (glass) and broke it so used a round one (improvising how I have to).
Make sure you sift the flour. It will make a difference in your bread having nice air bubbles in it and helps with measuring.
Make sure you don’t overmix and once it is mixed let it rise! I put it, covered, in a dish and put it in a warm area for an hour and used it once it doubled in side.

This bread can be used for jelly, with dinner or with some butter on top. It is not flavored (garlic, rosemary) to be a dinner bread so that makes it very versatile. Yes, active yeast is cheaper than beer, but I had only the latter of the two at my house and the stores all have plenty of liquor. Maybe when the quarantine is done I’ll go back to regular bread but I am very happy with this once. I topped mine with Lingonberry Jam from Ikea. I’ve never seen it in other stores so it is a treat to buy when I get to an Ikea store. The beer bread stays fresh for a few days after baking.
