7 Fun Preschool Toys To Get Kids Learning & Playing
It is so easy to put kids in front of the tv, smart phone or computer these days. Especially with summer being here. I get it 100%. My kids had their days of too much multimedia. Mostly because I was done, exhausted, sick or just needed to get some cleaning done. Having two kids close in age meant they fought a lot at that age too. Having toys and games, especially news ones, often would help get them engaged and having more fun. I have always been fond of toys that are educational. It could be shapes/colors, learning a new skill, imagination and pretend play, art and crafts and other things that encourage fine motor skills and thinking.
Toddler Educational Toy Ideas
Some of these toys will overlap ages. But I have them sort of seperated by toddler and preschool ages. This could also depend on the individual child and their developmental level. I always shopped for toys a little bit too hard for my kids so they’d grow into them. I also loved rotating my kids’ toys. Hide some for a while then they’ll be someone they ‘discovered’ and new to play with again. We also had special toys just for car rides. When it was their birthdays I hid toys and gave them out a little at a time too, spreading them out. Maybe lots of new toys since it is summer? Mix of educational and fun? Indoor vs outdoor toys? Do what works for you.
I love Vtech toys. They usually are for a mix of ages. This giraffe is perfect for a cuddly friend, something to dance with plus it talks, sings and has a light up belly. It says ‘birth+’ on it, but I it definitely is more when babies are old enough to push buttons, pick up things and boogie a little bit.
Leap Frog Shapes & Sharing Picnic Basket. Age 6+ months, but I think i a baby needs to be fully sitting up and understand holes, shapes and sorting first. So a young one can watch as a parent pushes buttons but it would be great for a toddler to have fun with and even have some pretend play with all the fake food.
Leap Frog Scoop & Learn Ice Cream Cart.
I love pretend play like this. The large kitchens, pots and pans, etc are fun. But this one fits in smaller places, like a bedroom, and is perfect for summer. Kids can pretend they are the ice cream man and sell ice cream, make scoops, collect money and more. There is counting, colors plus these fun pretend treats. The toy says ages 2+ but I think this would be a good 2-5-year-old game, since preschool age loves this type of play. Good for one kid, two kids, or a kid can play with their parents.
Preschool Fun Time
Antsy Pants Pet Clinic Kit. This is 100% pretend play. Kids can work in the pet clinic. Even bring in their own stuffed animals for some TLC. Kids can pretend they are vets to household pets, exotic animals, livestock and more. Plus it is a great build and play place to put a bean bag chair in to read a good book, while they are waiting for their next patient. I love how sturdy it is, how well made and how the front side is open, so kids aren’t hiding in it. This says ages 4+ but I think younger kids that have started pretend play would have fun too. Kids can even bring a small table inside for their workstation. This is something I’d normally have indoors, like the living room, but it’d work in the backyard in a shaded grassy area too.
Vtech Kidi Star Karaoke Machine. Fun machine to sing songs to with a little bit more. Light up colors, has built-in songs and works with your own music player, has games, can record singing and more. I like that the stand is adjustable in height and has extra noises, like cheering and applause. Added bonus is that it has two microphones (most have only one) so two kids can sing at the same time.
