5 Ways To Keep Moisture In Dry Hair
Growing older means my hair is dryer. Doesn’t help that I dye it often (hiding the grays). I have found a few tips to keep the moisture trapped in my hair better. Keeps it from looking dry, feeling dry, being tangly and brittle. I like keeping my hair long so these are things I do all the time to protect my hair. Added bonus, the better I take care of it, the less the ends split so I save money but cutting it less frequently.
- Cut your hair. Yes, I just said I do it less, but don’t forget to do this. It still gets rid of the really dry ends (that don’t look good either) and it makes your hair a lot easier to brush.
- Use a really good shampoo and conditioner. I love the set by Silk18 for dry, color treated hair. They use Synergy to add moisture and nourishment to hair and I love that they are paraben and sulfate free and have all natural ingredients. The conditioner smells amazing too. It smells like birthday cake!
- Put your hair up. After you shower trap the moisture in while it drys. Put it in a French twist, bun or a braid. I’ve noticed a huge difference with my hair when I do this. I leave it that way a few hours after showering (or for the whole day). When I let it down it is full of waves and curls, smells great and looks good too.
- Avoid a blow dryer. Instead towel-dry your hair and allow it to dry naturally. A blow dryer not only drys out your hair, it can also damage it. Same with a curling iron, straightening iron, crimping iron, etc. Use them when you want to dress up and go out but not on a daily basis.
- Before going in a pool rinse your hair with cold water. This will make it so the water is in your hair follicles more and there is less room for the chlorine water. After swimming make sure you wash your hair to rinse the harsh chemicals out of your hair. Do not sleep with them in your hair. This applies for salt water at the beach too (even though chlorine is harsher). Keep your hair protected.
