A Dog’s Way Home- Book or Movie?

If you like going to the movies than you should definitely check out A Dog’s Way home.  It just came out on Friday to theaters nation wide.  However, did you know before the movie there was a book?  Which is better?  Which should you do?  I always say ‘book first’ when there is a choice of both. That way you get details of the full story with a lot more of the minor details a movie skips.  I wouldn’t say that absolutely applies to this story for a few reasons.

Thoughts on the Book

First, the book is a read for older elementary age, middle school and up.  It is a full story with 335 pages.  Might be something for parents to read to younger kids too.  It is definitely not a picture book.  But the cover has been changed to match the dog in the movie.

The movie is family-friendly and rated G (general audience).  This means even younger kids can watch a cute heart warming movie.  Especially dog lovers.  This movie can also work for a date night.

As a puppy, Bella finds her way into the arms of Lucas, a young man who gives her a good home. When Bella becomes separated from Lucas, she soon finds herself on an epic 400-mile journey to reunite with her beloved owner. Along the way, the lost but spirited dog touches the lives of an orphaned mountain lion, a down-on-his-luck veteran and some friendly strangers who happen to cross her path.

Again, I normally always say book before movie, but in this case I’d say it depends on the age of the audience.  if you have young kids you might want to skip the book and to straight to the movie.  If you have older kids- do the book first.  They’ll enjoy it more and it is a great way to get them to read a good book and reward them with the movie afterwards.
