15 Must Haves For First Time Moms
Being a first time mom means a million questions, asking the doctor, your friends, reading books, etc. Plus a baby shower, or two. Many first time moms end up with an overwhelming amount of gifts but not always with the necessities. Having a registry helps but how do you know what to put on it? I’ve been a mom for over 16 years now plus am an aunt and have lots of friends with kids. Believe me, I’ve seen presents that I know are unnecessary! Best to plan ahead. Make a list. Focus on needs the mommy and baby will have.
1- Clothing. Yes, of course your baby will need clothing but NOT too much! Everyone will want to buy you newborn outfits. Some babies might only fit into these for a week or two. Very big babies might be less. With my firstborn I had about 40+ outfits that he’d outgrown before he ever had a chance to wear them! So, spread them out. Instead of all 0-3 month clothing get some 3-6, 6-9, 9-12. Also pay attention to the seasons. You won’t want to buy a snowsuit for a baby born in July nor a swimsuit for a baby born in November.
You’ll want some mittens for the hands, since newborn finger nails are super sharp. Onesies too. And some basic clothing that is easy to take on/off for bathing and diaper changing.
2- Get a Boppy with an extra cover. These are great for so many different reasons. They are made for propping a baby up higher for breastfeeding. But they are also good for laying a baby on it, helping a baby sit up and giving a baby some tummy time. I’ve even seem moms use it to put behind their back to help them sit up in bed. This is great for newborns but can be used for a few things for at least the first year. You can get at most places that have baby registries and on Amazon.
3- Belive it or not not all moms will need a breast pump. It totally depends on if you are going back to work or leaving the baby with someone else. However, they are good to have if the mom is engorged and the letdown is too much for the baby. If it is for something like that a manual pump might work. If you need one for going back to work you’ll want a dual electric pump. Do not settle for a cheap pump. The quality will reflect. Medela makes good pumps and you might be spending about $200 one one.
Also, if you are planning to breastfeed do NOT use pacifiers. Wait until breastfeeding is well established. Otherwise pacifiers can interfere with breastfeeding and cause nipple confusion.
4- If you are going back to work and are not close to the baby you will need to pump your milk while you are gone and transport it to/from work. Get a bag that works for you. I love the stylish breast pump bags by Kaylaa Bags. They can be used as a diaper bag, breast pump bag and as a tote or purse. The Rosy Weekend comes with two hand straps and a shoulder strap plus side compartments for a breast pump’s hoses to come out. It is very sturdy and has a flat bottom.
5- When the hospital gives you a nose aspirator KEEP IT! Do not lose it. I have never found one that works as well as the one they give out. You’ll need it when your baby has a cold or sinus congestion to help with breathing.
6- Small things! Receiving blankets and baby rags are great! You’ll need the blankets to swaddle your baby and the rags for spit up and bathing your baby.
7- Lanolin cream for mommy in case of sore and cracked nipples. Once you start bathing your baby you’ll want products that re delicate for their skin and won’t dry it out. I found BabyTime by Episencial offers a variety or products. Lotion, bubbles, baby wash and more. All that have natural and organic ingredients, many that are plant based. They are also vegan and gluten-free.
8- A sidecar, side sleeper, bassinet or crib. Maybe people co-sleep and this is fine as long as neither parent smokes, drinks or is obese. Plan where you will have your baby during naps and bedtime.
As per the research any medicine cannot make the disorder vanish from your life but it can definitely cure the problem from the man just for temporary period of time. female generic viagra Plus Priligy : Dapoxetine has been found to be safe and effective by the FDA authorities, viagra is the one that is not able to make the connection in a time of. But it generic viagra 25mg does not mean that they are putting all the responsibility on you.
9- Rocking chair with foot stool for the mom or a very comfortable place to sit with the baby for rocking and feeding.
10- Diapers. Of course you’ll need diapers, right? But what type? Cloth, disposable? Both? Also do not buy them too much in advance. I noticed with my kids if we used diapers that were old (been around 6 months or longer, even if sealed in package) they’d get a rash. So, don’t get a year’s worth of diapers. Get a month of diapers at a time. This way you won’t have too much if your child has a growth spurt and goes up a size.
11- Ring Sling or some type of baby carrier. You’ll need to be holding your baby often and these are great to keep your baby close to you while still having full use of your hands. Make sure you get the right size and one for the right age of your baby. There are many sling groups out there or you can ask someone from La Leche League to help. Some La Leche League groups sell them or if not should know of a place to buy them and learn how to use them.
12- Have snacks handy for the mom and a water bottle. If you are nursing you’ll need to make sure you are drinking plenty of water and having small snacks. I found trail mix was good to have on my end table. A good book too, in case my child fell asleep and I didn’t want to get up.
13- A safe place to put the baby while you shower or cook food. I put my kids in a portacrib while in the shower and a swing or Rock ‘N Play while in the kitchen or while doing laundry. It is easy to transport room to room and is soothing.
14- If you plan to mail Thank You Cards do it before the baby comes. You can order custom ones online and even upload photos to the card. If you want to wait and use the cards as an announcement you can upload photos to the site and put one or a collage of photos on the card. You can even use these as family Christmas cards. I just ordered some for Christmas cards and they look fantastic. The colors and pixels are great and photos are seamless. The option to have a photo inside or on the back cover is available too. Or make them really easy and make photo-post cards. The possibilities are endless.
See.. Mine are teens but the cards are still great!
15- Health basics. You definitely want a baby thermometer and not to wait until your baby has a fever to buy one. Nail clippers are good too. If you have a large house you’ll want a baby monitor. You can even find ones that work with your computer or cell phone. I have a small house and never used one. Wasn’t worth the money.
All in all, you don’t want too much or things you’ll never use and you won’t want where you don’t have enough and need to run to the store with a newborn. Planning ahead is essential since once the baby comes things will get a whole lot busier.

I wish I had a breast pump with my first child. They are so expensive and would be a great group gift.
