Mitsubishi Outlander Sport All Around Favorite
Being able to visit my grandma is such a blessing. We try to make it out here once a year but my car is getting up there in mileage (almost 200,000 miles) and is high off the ground and it is too hard for her to get in my car. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to visit. A normal trip, for a few days, for hotel, gas and food, is about $500 for me. This time it would be more if I had to rent a car. Mitsubishi came to the rescue, letting me take a super awesome 2015 Outlander Sport for a week.
Perfect Car For Family Of 3-5
Fascinating to have ‘keys’ that I don’t have to put in an ignition and turn over. Instead I just have to make sure the car is in park, my foot is on the break and push a button. I didn’t need to wait for the car to warm up before driving it either. By the end of the week I was telling myself, “I really need to buy this car.”
We drove the car for a few days at home to get used to it. I love so much about this car. It gets fantastic mileage (30 MPG highway, 24 city) is roomy for a sport car, seating 5, and has a nice amount of room in the back. Some of my favorite features are the stereo system and extra set of speakers to have my cell phone set up with the bluetooth, the Auto-start button to turn on/off the car, and that the seat moves back enough for my long legs (I’m 5’10”) and the kids still have leg room in the back too.
My son is a little over 6 feet tall and fit fine sitting behind the passenger seat or my seat with plenty of leg room (the inside of the car is definitely bigger than it appears. I’ve never driven a mid-size car that felt so roomy.
Lots of Room To Stretch & Move
Middle seat folds down to armrest and cupholder. A good divider for kids that fight to have their own space too. The stereo and sound system were fantastic. There is a separate speaker system for the GPS. So if the radio is turned down or off the GPS will still tell me directions at a normal sound level.
Fancy finding the car also has 4-wheel drive. Alas, I didn’t use it. I’ve been ‘4-bying’ lots of times but never was the driver and didn’t want to damage anything.
We left after breakfast on Friday morning. Unfortunately we hit ‘the weekend before Thanksgiving week so everyone is going camping’ traffic so the drive took an extra hour but we made it to Blythe Friday evening, got out hotel and picked up my grandma and took her to Sizzler for dinner. We hadn’t see seen her since last November so it was great to be able see her and spend a few days with her, celebrating her birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Grandma Likes The Mitsubishi Too!
I have always had high off the ground cars. Trucks, a van, SUV, etc. I hate being in a car that is so low that if a large car is in front of me I can’t see around them, see if a light has turned red or have my vision limited in traffic. Not a problem with the Mitsubishi. I love the height of this car! High enough to see around other cars while driving and not feeling tiny yet low enough that my grandma didn’t need a stepstool and could get in/out of the car on her own. Her walker fit easily in the back too. Did I mention she is turning 90?

Saturday we picked up my grandma at 10am and went to church rummage sale she mentioned she had wanted to visit. They had 3 tables of stuff, mostly Christmas themed & a bake sale table. There was a decorative candle snuffer and my grandma thought it was a pretty bell. I told her it was to put out candles and she said to the seller, “She is smart. She went to college.”
Afterwards I drove grandma to her bank and then we went to Wendy’s about 6 miles away in Az. Because my grandma thinks they have the best chicken nuggets. After eating and fueling up we drove down dirt road and saw the Colorado river and she told us stories of fishing and how she taught my cousin, Jeremy, to fish.
The river was beautiful with a bridge to the left, the freeway to the right and in front of us some cattails, water plants and we could see tiny fish in the shallow parts near the shore. We could see a fire far up in the hills somewhere that seems to be growing.
Then to Eransburg Az and went to airplane hanger swap meet thing that was old, overpriced crappy stuff with 4 inches of dust. My grandma likes to visit here every time we visit. She got a few Christmas-themed coffee mugs and chatted with the guy taking care of the sales. We had to drive on a gravel road to get to the entrance and the car handled fine in the lose rocks.
Afterwards we went back to her apartment to hang out a while. I showed her some photos on Facebook from my cousin, Rachel, in Indiana. Rachel has a newborn grandson and my grandma had not yet seen photos of him. She doesn’t quiet understand Facebook but I was able to show her my cell and swipe the photos for her to see them all. I love taking pictures and she was happy to pose with the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.
She is on the go so much it is hard to remember she is turning 90-years-old! She needed to rest & didn’t want to do dinner. So back to our hotel and we hung out in the hotel the rest of the evening and got some Pizza nearby to eat in our room. There isn’t a ton of choices for meals in Blythe. There is Sizzlers, Pizza Hut, a barbecue place (we noticed after we ordered the Pizza Hut) and some Mexican food places (but grandma doesn’t like Mexican food without cheese and is allergic to dairy). Everything else is fast food. I’m thankful for the awesome navigation system the car has. Since I’m only out to visit my grandma once a year it is hard to remember my way around the small streets or to find the restaurants. The GPS, we named Bridget for the car trip, was helpful in telling us where to go as well as redirecting if there was sudden traffic.
Sunday we are picking my grandma up at 10am. Her church service is st 10:30. I think the service is 1 hour. Then they are having a thanksgiving potluck that is her church and another church combined. After that we are dropping get off at her apartment, going to my aunt’s & hanging out a few hours. Every time we visit my uncle Clay takes the kids for a ride in his jeep to explore the river and open property near their house. That gives my aunt and I a chance to chat for a little bit and hang out. Their house is on a large property with a gorgeous porch facing the sunset.
I love being able to visit my grandma and that my kids have a chance to know their only great-grand-parent. She is getting up there in years and I wish she lived closer. I’m forever thankful to Mitsubishi for the opportunity to drive the Outlander Sport all week and be able to take it for the visit. It even made the car trip more entertaining since the kids and kept discovering new things the car could do, like the light up moon roof. They also were very comfortable in the car and I was not as sore or tired as expected after such a long drive. The plush contoured seats with the option of making the seats heated definitely added to the pleasure of the drive.
The back of car fit all of our luggage, food and snacks plus my son brought his whole computer tower and monitor so that he could work on repairs while we were there. All of it fit in the car!

WOW! This looks awesome! I can’t believe the room inside!! It looks more compact from the outside…but inside it’s spacious. How did they do that?! I would love to drive something like this with my boys! Thanks for sharing, I have to look into Mitsubishi we have never owned one and I had no idea they’re so stylish and up with the technology stuff.
