Celebrating An 80’s Birthday Party
We just celebrated a really fun 80’s birthday party for my 45’s birthday and it was an absolute blast. My BFF helped (a ton) with the decorations and created a dessert table in theme that is fabulous. I’m not one for decorating much but with the help or Oriental Trading I was able to get some supplies. Others (like the dessert table) were online from Etsy or Amazon plus some candy was from an 80’s Decade Box from Old Time Candy.
Here is a side view of the dessert table. I love the neon glasses and bracelets. The centerpiece holds cupcakes on the top of it.
Some 80’s candy:
Skittles, lemonhead, Wax Lips, Mike& Ike, Hot Tamales, Jolly Ranchers, PopDrops, Airheads, Sugar Daddy, Cry Baby bubblegum, Atomic FireBall, Gilliam candy stick candy, Sixlets Chocolatey Candies. All in the box from Old Time Candy.
This cassette tape table skirt from Oriental Trading was the perfect length to fit the front and side of my counter top. I ordered food and dessert plates (top of the counter top) in hot pink, lime green, turquoise and orange from the same place. Candy dish made of a record with a slinky surrounding it and a cassette-tape stand below. Instead of a cake we had cupcakes with 80’s pins and mini Rubik’s Cubes on top. The cupcake wrappers are tape cassettes too.

How 80’s Are You?
Let’s not forget the dress up! I was laughing to learn a lot of friends dug deep into their closets to find clothing for the party! From side ponytails to feathered earrings and more. Plus (not in photo) layered socks, leg warmers, Zip-Arounds, mis-matched earrings… We made some ‘frames’ to hold up behind the curtain as a ‘green screen’ for photos. Each frame had 80’s bands written on it. Sadly the green screen idea didn’t work. The curtain isn’t green enough. But we still had fun posing for photos! Note my Pink Floyd shirt. An original from a 1989 concert, Momentary Lapse of Reason. I got it from a bootlegger at the freeway offramp on the way to the concert. My cousin is sporting a Bon Jovi shirt and a mini-jean jacket. Her daughter looked like Sandy in Grease. My brother was dressed as Top Gun. The outfits were all amazing and creative! Some Ceiling Decorations from Oriental Trading.
All in all, the party was a great hit! If I had to do it again I think having an 80’s trivia game would be fun and maybe have a costume contest. I wouldn’t have been able to pull this off without all the help from my BFF and am so glad I had all the help.
What is your Favorite 80’s Clothing Style?
