8 Tips For Keeping Dyed Hair Vibrant & Bright
Nothing like have a brand new hairdo and having the color fade out immediately. Want to learn how to keep the color? Hair dying is something some people do once a year and others every few months. Red colors fade quicker than browns, blacks and blonds due to its large color molecule. Besides redying often, there are some tips from hair dressers and other people that regularly dye their hair on how to keep the colors vibrant, bright and to reduce fading.
- When you dye your hair, dye it when it is dirty. Yes, crazy, but clean hair does not hold the dye as well.
- Wash your hair less. By reducing the frequency of washing it will reduce the color being rinsed out.
- When you wash your hair use shampoo less. Either just wash with water or use conditioner and not shampoo (I do this to rinse and detangle my hair). You can even try dry shampoos for in between showers.
- By shampoo and conditioners that are Sulfate-free. I like Soapbox products that are color-safe and Paraben-free and have yummy coconut scents.
- Wash hair in cold water.
- Reduce amount of heat to hair by blowdrying less and let hair dry naturally or towel dry.
- After you color your hair don’t wash it for 24 to 48 hours. This will help the dye set better and last longer.
- Use a shampoo for colored hair. If you use ones with colored pigment in them they will help keep the color fresh.
For me, I dye my hair to cover the grays the like to come in on my hair line and drive me up the wall!
Don’t forget not all hair products are created equal. It is important to buy quality dyes that do not burn or dry out your hair. I like buying my hair dye, gloves, developer and reusable bottle at a beauty supply store. They have great prices and employees that are familiar with hair products and how they are used. If you aren’t good at coloring your own hair, go to a salon and get it done and then learn how to do touch-ups. I also like to use Gray Magic (I added a few drops in the bottle with the dye and developer). It helps color over gray hairs and keep the dyed hair color bright and long lasting.
7 Products You Need For A Greener 2017
Going green isn’t as easy as it I want it to be. Everyone wants to be greener but it is something that is always a work-in-progress. I try but there is so much more I can be doing. I don’t use one-use plastic water bottles, I recycle, I try to grow a lot of my own vegetables and buy at local farmer’s markets. But what about the small things? There is always room for improvement, right? Here are some new items I’ll be adding as a regular stable to my household this year to try to reduce our carbon footprints and do just a tiny bit more.

Good for your body and good for the environment! The DivaCup is a menstrual cup. It is something that is used instead of tampons or pads. Why? Well, pads leak and tampons are not healthy. Sonic’s New Lil’ Griller’s For Kids
Just in time for Valentine’s Day. Grab your kids for a fun parent-child date and head to Sonic. Right now you can get a taste of a brand new menu item, Lil’ Grillers. Perfect for kids of all ages and they come in a variety of flavors. This was my first time at Sonic and we had a blast. It is a new generation of a 50’s diner. We drove up in the pouring rain to a parking space in a carport and ordered from a menu board into the restaurant. We paid outside and when our food was ready a server brought everything out to us.
The Menu Was Amazing!
There is so many choices, it was hard to decided what to order. We had choices of burgers, sandwiches and more plus a ton of drink options.
The Lil’ Grillers are a fun-sized take on a classic grilled cheese sandwich. We ordered one with chicken, a burger and one with just cheese. They also have a breakfast one. Each mini-sandwich is on sourdough bread toasted with American cheese.
The chicken Lil’ Griller had two slices of sourdough bread, crispy chicken, melted cheese and buffalo sauce. It was a neat treat for my daughter to try all three and have a nice variety in her meal. They are great for a snack or a few for a full meal and each are only 79 cents!
Each Lil’ Griller begins with Mini Sourdough Toast and warm, melty American cheese. Guests can choose to intensify the flavor experience by adding crispy chicken, a burger or even breakfast nestled into their Lil’ Griller. Lil’ Griller options available all day include: Lil’ Cheese Griller, Lil’ Chickie Griller with a Chicken Strip and Buffalo Sauce, Lil’ Patty Griller with 100% Beef Patty and Ketchup, Lil’ Breakfast Griller with egg and your choice of bacon or sausage.
Sonic also has a huge selection of Slushies and drinks!
A huge amount of fun fruity flavors and fantastic prices. They even have special prices at certain times of the day. My daughter tried the Green Apple Blast and said it tastes like a Jolly Rancher candy. Besides these drinks they also had shakes, ice cream and Sonic Blasts.
I also tried this heavenly cheesy bacon hot dog on a pretzel bun. It was full of flavor and very well made. They have a few different hot dog varieties and I’m looking forward to trying the Footlong Chicago Dog next time I am there.
Sonic Drive-In is a fun place for the whole family. Next time you want to take your child on a parent-child date this is a great place to have some fun. Be sure to check out the Lil’ Grillers on their menu. Right now they have five different types. Plus you can stop in for breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack or dessert. Food is brought right to your car. With fantastic food and great prices it is a win-win!

Mushroom & Potato Pizza with Fontina Cheese, Spinach & Garlic Oil
None of us had ever had potatoes on a pizza before. My son did not even want to try it but we coaxed him. The pizza was sensational! Definitely full of flavor. I think the seasons and unique toppings gave it extra texture and depth to whole new level of pizza.
Ms K. cutting up the mushrooms and other veggies. Mushrooms on the left and spinach leaves on the right… YES, these are going on a pizza. Shortcut to roll out the dough. Add the Sauce, Tomatoes, Mushrooms…
Spinach and Cheese is next…Now Ready For The Oven
All done! We cooked it a tiny bit too long (opps, didn’t set the timer) but it was still delicious and I had seconds.
Spiced Beef & Pickled Onion Tortas with Cara Cara Orange, Radish & Romaine Salad
These were easy to make but the very last step, toasting the bread in the pan, didn’t work. I think we overstuffed the bread and it was hard to keep everything from falling out. We have one pestcaterian in our family so we made three with the spiced beef and a fourth with a salmon patty. I’d never had orange slices in a salad before but it was a nice, refreshing twist that was easy.
Check out what we received and my person Junior Chef helped me create. We received two meals to create at home. Both took 10-15 minutes to prep, 25-35 minutes to cook and had a serving size of four. We made both of them, so we can try both, and had leftovers for the next day. The recipes did require for us to read them all the way through first to completely understand the steps but were easy to make.
Toasted delicious bread. onions boiled with vinegar, sugar, water and a pinch of salt than drained. After they cooled they were added with lettuce and seasoned and cooked spicy beef to the bread and cheese was added on the other side.
Sliced beef with seasoning mixed in.
Finished sandwich. Viola! Delicious side view of the sandwich. The salad was a perfect pairing!
Having my daughter help with the whole thing made the meal making a lot quicker and we enjoyed chatting while we cooked. I think it is important to get kids in the kitchen to help with meals (and clean up) so that they understand the ingredients and where they come from and also appreciate the food more. Blue Apron meals can be ordered online and delivered to your door. Lots of meal choices and options with diet, size of family, frequency of delivery, etc.
Now we can sit down and get into season five of MasterChef Junior and cheer the teams on while they create fantastic dishes.
